On Wednesday, public health officials in the US announced that people who were at risk of monkeypox infection were less likely to get the infection if they had received a single dose of the monkeypox vaccine. They further urged high-risk individuals to get a second dose to ensure full coverage. Further, the public health officials explained how the Jynneos vaccine is affecting monkeypox. Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, added that the new data provides a level of cautious optimism that the vaccine is working as intended.

Although there is no scientifically conclusive data available to prove the effectiveness of the Jynneos vaccine, the CDC′s new real-world figures showed that unvaccinated men between the ages of 18 and 49 were 14 times more likely to become infected with monkeypox in comparison to those who had had one dose at least two weeks earlier.

The data was taken from 32 states where cases of the infection were reported between July 31 and September 3. On the other hand, the new CDC guidance was intended to reach more people who might be at risk of monkeypox exposure.

The guidelines state that gay, bisexual men, and transgender people who have had more than one sexual partner in the past six months are eligible for the vaccine. It also added that the vaccine should be administered on the shoulder or upper back. Hence, the marks from the shot can be covered with clothing.
